The Langford Area boys basketball team dropped a heartbreaker to Jones County 66-65 on a last-second shot at the Huron Classic last week Tuesday and fell victim to a Wilmot fourth quarter comeback in a 70-62 loss on Saturday to fall to 0-5 on the season.
A bright spot for the Lions was that senior Kassen Keough scored his 1,000th career point in the Wilmot contest.
Last night Tuesday the Lions traveled to Redfield.  This week Coach Brian Schuring’s crew hosts Herreid-Selby in a twin bill with the girls’ squad (JV girls 4 p.m., JV boys, varsity girls, varsity boys to follow).
Jones County 66
Langford Area 65
Langford Area led at the first three quarter breaks but Jones County rallied with a 20-point fourth period and hit a last-second three-pointer for its third win in four starts.
“We lost a tough game on a contested last-second shot,” said Schuring.  “We played hard the whole game but were on the wrong side on the scoreboard.  We are making progress in our game which is good to see.”
The Lions led 15-10, 34-30, and 52-46 before Jones County battled back.  Kassen Keough pumped in a season-high 32 points and Grayson Hurley added 15.  Dylan Harmon pulled down eight rebounds, had seven assists, three blocked shots, and four steals.  Bryer Kinsley carried Jones County with 40 counters, including the game-winner.
Wilmot 70
Langford Area 62
For the second straight game Langford Area saw a six-point lead dissolve in the fourth quarter in its loss to Wilmot.
The Lions jumped out to a 20-8 first quarter lead and led by six at halftime and after three periods.  But Wilmot exploded for 28 points in the final stanza to pick up its fourth win in six starts.
“We shot the ball really well to start the game,” noted Schuring.  “We were able to get some good looks at the basket and were able to make the shots. Another great effort by the Lions, however, another tough loss.”
Keough, who is averaging 30 points per game in the Lions’ last two contests, pumped in 28 points as he surpassed the 1,000-point career milestone, Hurley added 14, and Case Reints 10.  Harmon pulled down six rebounds, Hurley had five assists, and Harmon and Keough each had four steals.
