B-H GIRLS FALL TO WEBSTER

B-H GIRLS FALL TO WEBSTER
Britton-Hecla’s Karlie Zuehlke navigated through a crowd on the way to the basket against Webster Area. The Lady Braves will host Florence-Henry on Monday.

Webster Area broke open a six-point game with a 26-point fourth quarter outburst to post a 62-39 win over Britton-Hecla in girls basketball play on Friday.
The loss dropped the Lady Braves to 0-3 heading into the holiday break.  Coach Terry Nelson’s squad is back in action on Monday, hosting Florence-Henry (JV 6 p.m., varsity to follow).
“Turnovers and free throws have been hurting us,” said Nelson.  “We just haven’t been hitting on all cylinders.  Our focus next week is to put the ball in the hole from the free throw line, shoot a better outside percentage, and keep up our intensity on defense.  We just need to slowly try to get better and be ready for the postseason.”
Webster Area used a trio of treys to grab an 11-9 lead after one period, but Chellon Pruitt hit a 15-footer a minute and a half into the second stanza to knot the contest at 13-11.  The Bearcats responded with a 15-4 run and led 28-17 at halftime.
Britton-Hecla bounced back behind seven points from Pruitt in the third period, outscoring the visitors 13-8 to cut the margin to 36-30 after three quarters.  But Webster Area hit the first five points of the final quarter to go back up by 11 and the Lady Braves were not able to mount a serious challenge the rest of the way.
Pruitt notched 17 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and was credited with three assists to lead  B-H.  Maddi Micko chipped in with eight counters and Karlie Zuehlke pulled down six boards.
