The Langford Area boys basketball team is still looking for its first win of the season, dropping decisions to Estelline-Hendricks 65-33 and Hitchcock-Tulare 55-41 last week.
Coach Brian Schuring’s club, now 0-3, will take on Jones County, 2-1, in the Huron Classic at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Estelline-Hendricks 65
Langford Area 33
Unbeaten Estelline-Hendricks pumped in 42 first half points to grab a 27-point advantage and cruised to its third win of the season.
Kassen Keough scored 12 points to lead the Lions. Conner Glines and Dylan Harmon each grabbed six rebounds and Harmon added three assists.
“We had a tough game against another highly respected team,” said Schuring. “E-H created tough matchups for the Lions. We did show signs of team play at times which was good to see. Hopefully we learn from this game and keep improving as a team.”
Hitchcock-Tulare 55
Langford Area 41
Langford Area trailed by just seven at halftime but Hitchcock-Tulare outscored the Lions 20-9 in the third period to take charge.
Dylan Harmon hit a fielder and Kassen Keough canned a trey in a low-scoring opening period and the Lions led 5-4 at the break. It was tied at 10-all with three minutes gone in the second stanza when Keough hit another three and Case Reints sunk a 15-footer, but the visitors went on an 8-0 run and led 26-19 at intermission.
LA trailed by 11 with just under three minutes left in the third quarter but the Patriots went on a 9-0 run to lead 48-28 with 7:30 remaining in the game. Reints hit a three-pointer, and Conner Glines, Keough, and Graydon Hurley scored buckets to cut the margin to 52-40 with 3:24 left but the Lions couldn’t get any closer.
Keough led the Lions with 14 points and Glines netted 12. Dylan Harmon pulled down seven rebounds, Glines had six, and Graydon Hurley and Keough grabbed five each.
“We struggled with our shots not falling and hopefully that will change in the future,” said Schuring. “We have had a difficult schedule to start the season and hopefully we will benefit from it.”
