The Marshall County Commission met Tuesday morning and addressed a range of topics including infrastructure updates, emergency services, zoning matters, and routine annual business.
Commissioners approved approach permits for Rodney Tobin and The Towers LLC before turning to discussion on bridges eligible for the state’s Bridge Improvement Grant program. They also heard that the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department may have funding available to assist with improvements to County Road 5, commonly known as the Fort Road. The board expressed interest in pursuing that opportunity.
Emergency Management Director Logan Roehr reported on the county’s radio repeater system, which has been in place for years and supports communication to dispatch entities. Roehr said he is exploring options for upgrades or a possible replacement and determining whether the system should receive a full evaluation. As part of E911 system updates, the commission voted to unassign $75,000 previously designated for hospital purposes and redirect the funds to E911 needs.
A single bid was received for the county’s generator project, $3,200 from Vietor Farms, which was approved. Commissioners also authorized three new credit cards for purchasing ambulance fuel, each with a $2,000 limit.
In other emergency services matters, the board discussed security at the ambulance garage. Cameras have been removed, and Jason Devine will evaluate security needs and determine whether a new system could tie into the courthouse’s existing setup and be monitored through the Sheriff’s Office.
In zoning matters, the board held the first reading of a rezone ordinance for Sam and Amanda Nordquist following a recommendation from the zoning board. A related variance request for the same property in Lake Township was postponed until Dec. 16.
A conditional use permit for an Otter Tail Power substation in Eden Township was approved. Commissioners also approved a building permit for Brian Anderson in Hamilton Township.
The zoning board will meet again on Dec. 16, followed by an executive session of the commission.
