
Britton-Hecla High School held its local oral interpretation contest on Thursday. Judges Kate Wismer and Thane Henschel picked the entry from each of the categories who will represent the team at regions in Aberdeen Nov. 18. The reader’s theatre performed a spoken word poem entitled “Somewhere in America” and is comprised of Paisley Bray, Carter Chapin, and Amelia Ingvalson. Bray’s poem “How to Stay Bitter Through the Happiest Times” and her humorous duet with Chapin, “The Three Step Method”, will also be moving on. Chapin is the other triple entered performer at regions with his storytelling entitled “The Good Egg.” Emily Effling will move on with her serious reading “Amanda”. Baylee Bender is the oratory representative with “The Disease of Being Busy”. Charles Schuller, performing “The Rabbit Report” in the humorous category, rounds out the region team.
Other individual event competitors were Ruthie Moeckly and Avery Leonard in oratory, Ingvalson, Olivia Effling, and Savannah Angstman in poetry, Adalyn Kanizar in storytelling, Wyatt Strong, Noah Schuster, Caitlyn Casey, Aiden Strong, Cecily Tobin, and Luzetta Moeckly in serious reading, and Brooklyn Hunt, Lily Mundt, and Annalie Satterlee in humorous. Three other duets rounded out the evening’s entertainment: Ingvalson and Aiden Strong, Schuster and Ryer Larson, and Hunt and Kanizar.
Langford Area students also earned spots at their upcoming regional oral interpretation contest following their local competition. Advancing to regions are Skyler Godel and Kassen Keough in the duet category, along with Daniel Jesz, who qualified in both storytelling and humorous. Alternates include Maddie Knebel in poetry, Ethan Jesz in oratory, and Josie VanderVorst in serious reading. The regional contest will take place Nov. 17 in Watertown.
