The Britton-Hecla volleyball team advanced to the Region 1A semifinals with a first-round win over Redfield on Tuesday while the Langford Area season came to an end n Region 1B..
The fourth-seeded Lady Braves, now 14-12, won the opening set over the fifth-seeded Pheasants 25-20, dropped the second 19-25, and came back to take the next two 25-18 and 26-24. Redfield had defeated Britton-Hecla 3-1 in their regular season matchup.
B-H will now take on #1 seed Groton Area (24-5) in Groton at 6 p.m. Thursday for a berth in the SoDak 16. The Tigers swept the Lady Braves during regular season play 25-15, 25-18, 25-12.
Second seed Aberdeen Roncalli (17-11) will battle third seed Webster Area (15-9) for the other Region 1A SoDak 16 berth. That match will also be played in Groton at 7:45 p.m. Thursday.
SoDak 16 qualifiers will be re-seeded and play to determine the eight Class A state tournament qualifiers. The state tourney will be played in Rapid City Nov. 20-22.
Langford Area played Aberdeen Christian in quarterfinal play of the Region 1B tournament on Tuesday. The Lady Lions’ season came to an end, falling to the Knights 25- 18, 25-20, 25-12. LA finished with an 11-21 season record.
