MC COMMISSION PASSES WHEEL TAX BUMP

MC COMMISSION PASSES WHEEL TAX BUMP

The Marshall County Commission met Tuesday morning, taking several actions and reviewing ongoing projects and initiatives.
Commissioners approved the second reading of Ordinance 73, which increases the wheel tax from $4 to $5 per wheel for vehicles with up to 12 wheels. The increase will take effect Jan. 1 and will be assessed at the time of vehicle registration.
Neal Pearson was granted an approach permit, and Jennifer Ringkob provided an update on 4H activities in the county. Commissioners also signed a memorandum of understanding for SecureSD, a cybersecurity initiative funded through SB187 in partnership with the Attorney General’s Office and the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency. The program aims to strengthen cybersecurity for municipalities, counties, and local governments across South Dakota.
The commission approved the liquor license renewal for Prairie Sky and held an executive session on personnel, with no action taken afterward.
Building permits were approved for David Hagen in Hamilton Township, Randy Heitmann in Red Iron Lake Township (with an approved variance), and Penrhos Farms, Inc. in Lowell Township.
The next Marshall County Commission meeting is scheduled for Nov. 18.
