The Britton-Hecla Junior High football team ended its season with a pair of wins and finished with an 8-3-1 record.
Coach Adam Suther’s squad stopped Waverly-South Shore 22-12 and downed Wyndmere-Lidgerwood 16-6 to wrap up a strong fall campaign.
“Our goal at the beginning of the year was to get better every week, and I think we did that,” said Suthur. “The other focus was to build to the future by preparing the eighth graders to take that next step to become high school football players and building the seventh graders up to lead the junior high team next year. I thought the kids worked hard all year and did a good job working toward their goals. I look forward to watching them hit the weight room in the offseason to keep building on a fun season.”
In the win over Wyndmere-Lidgerwood Cullen Peters connected with Blayden Downs on a 22-yard touchdown pass, and Jarrik Jones punched in a three-yard run with Peters running in both two-point conversions for the young Braves. Downs led the running game with 111 yards on five carries and Kylan Sasker hauled in a 38-yard catch.
B-H had a balanced defensive attack with Henry Kilker leading the team with three solo/four assisted tackles, Jones with two solo/eight assisted, and Corbin Dawson with two solo/six assisted tackles. Jones and Sasker each had an interception, Easton Zuehlke had a fumble recovery, and Maverick Strong had a sack.
Against Waverly-South Shore Downs ran in two touchdowns and had 16 rushes for 129 yards. Peters added a 16-yard scoring run while Zuehlke hauled in both two-point conversions. Defensively, Talon Dinger led the young Braves with two solo tackles.
