The Britton-Hecla High School oral interpretation team had a busy week with two invitational tournaments. Thursday, they placed second in team points at the Golden Eagle contest in Aberdeen with five entries breaking finals, and then on Saturday earned four Superior Plus ratings at the Florence Invitational. In Thursday’s meet, which included all classes of competitors combined, Amelia Ingvalson made it past three rounds of prelims to make finals in poetry, placing first, and also teamed up with Aiden Strong to place sixth in the final duet round. Baylee Bender won the final oratory round, and Paisley Bray placed third with her poetry. Ruthie Moeckly earned sixth place in finals with her oratory. The finalist points put the team in second place behind the winning Desmet team with Yankton following in third place. Also attending the Eagle’s meet were Noah Schuster, Caitlyn Casey, Ryer Larson, and Annalie Satterlee.
The Florence meet featured only three rounds of preliminary competitions, and no team points were compiled. Speaker points were used to award ribbons with Superior Plus being the highest. Senior Paisley Bray and Junior Carter Chapin came home with the top rating for their duet and for two other events- poetry and storytelling, respectively, and then teamed up with Ingvalson in the reader’s theatre category for the third top score. There were ten entries that earned Superior speaking point’s ribbons: Larson and Schuster’s duet, Brooklyn Hunt and Charles Schuller and Satterlee in humorous, Bender and Moeckly in oratory, Savannah Angstman and Ingvalson in poetry, and Schuster and Wyatt Strong in serious. There were five entries who ended with Excellent Plus ratings: Adalyn Kanizar in humorous, and Casey, Aiden Strong, Luzetta Moeckly, and Cecily Tobin in serious.
The team has next week off and then will be back in action at the Arlington Invitational Meet and the ECC Tournament.
