LA, B-H MARCHING BANDS STAY BUSY, GROTON FRIDAY

Marching bands from Langford and Britton-Hecla are keeping a busy schedule this fall as competition season continues.
The Langford Area Marching Lions will perform at the Lake Region Marching Band Festival in Groton on Friday, Oct. 10. The event begins at 10 a.m., with the Lions stepping off at 11:24 a.m. They will compete in the combination band category, which includes groups made up of both middle school and high school students. Other competitors in the category include Aberdeen Roncalli, Ipswich, Hoven, and Leola.
Earlier this month, the Marching Lions took part in the Aberdeen Marching Band Festival and will wrap up their marching season with this week’s trip to Groton. The band is directed by Kelly Wieser, with assistance from Laurie Darling, color guard coach Anna Marie Sachs, and student teacher Julia Orr.
Britton-Hecla’s Marching Band also performed at the Aberdeen festival on Wednesday and will head to Groton on Friday for the same competition. In addition to contest performances, the Britton-Hecla High School Pep Band recently entertained residents at Wheatcrest Hills Healthcare Center. The band is directed by Jakob Walden.
At the Aberdeen Marching Festival last week, Aberdeen Roncalli earned first place, followed by Ipswich in second, Hoven in third.
