The Langford Area volleyball squad had a goal to post more wins this season than a year ago and the Lady Lions reached that objective with a sweep over Wilmot on Monday, boosting its season record to 10-13.
LA won two of three matches in the past week, stopping Waubay-Summit in five sets and falling to Faulkton in four. Coach Susan Larson’s club is back in action on Tuesday at Hitchcock-Tulare.

Wilmot 19-13-15
LA had things under control against Wilmot in earning the sweep.
“The girls played well,” said Larson. “The team stayed focused to win three straight sets. We also had a chance to work on a little quicker offense on occasion.”
LA pounded 25 kills, led by Emily Olson with eight and Lizzie Gustafson with seven.

Langford Area battled back from a 2-1 deficit and outlasted Waubay-Summit in a five-set battle.
“Wow! A great night of volleyball and victory seems doubly sweet when you’re battling an evenly matched team and you come out the victor,” said Larson. “One thing I love about this Lion team is that they’re not afraid of the fight or the hard work. They don’t give up and that’s fun to watch and fun to coach. I was super proud of their effort.
“We played some good defense and stayed aggressive,” added Larson. “We started out a little low energy but worked hard to build some momentum. The JV team showed some grit last night as well. After losing the first set, they rallied back to win the next two. Both junior high teams won as well. It was a great night to be a Lion!”
Emily Olson had a big night at the net with 12 kills, Brooke Dwight added nine and Lizzie Gustafson seven. Mariah Tosse led the way with five blocks.
Faulkton 25-25-23-25
LA 19-13-25-18
Langford Area fought back from a 2-0 deficit with a third set win but fell in four sets to Faulkton last week Tuesday.
“Faulkton was a good game for us,” said Larson. “Despite some uncommon errors, we stuck with them throughout most of the sets. We just seemed to be a step behind but the girls rallied hard and fought hard to get in the game. One of the things I love about this team is that they don’t give up.”
Emily Olson had a big night at the net for the Lady Lions with 10 kills and Paytyn Marlow came up with 28 digs and 10 assists.
