B-H RUNNERS IN PAIR OF MEETS

    The Britton-Hecla cross country squad competed in a pair of meets in the past week, traveling to Sisseton on Thursday and participating in the Eastern Coteau Conference Meet in De Smet on Monday.
    This week Coach Stephanie Symens’ squad will wrap up its regular season schedule at the Northeast Conference Meet in Webster on Thursday.  Region 1A is also scheduled on the Webster course on Wednesday, Oct. 15.
    “Sisseton was warm running, but we all ran really well,” noted Symens.  “We are hitting our stride and running strong as a team.  Monday was beautiful down in De Smet. The weather was finally cool and there was no wind and we had good times.  We are all very excited to see how the end of the season goes.”
    At Sisseton Livia Knecht was the Braves’ top finisher, taking sixth in the 5,000-meter girls varsity race in a field of 13 runners with a 23:50.84 clocking.  Joseph O’Brien was the other B-H varsity runner, finishing 13th among 26 competitors in the boys’ event with a 21:04.23 effort.
    Danny Small was 19th in a 27-runner field in the boys’ junior varsity division, running the 4,000-meter course in 19:15.18.  Two local runners competed in the girls junior high race over the 3,000-meter course with a field of 22 runners.  Avery Leonard placed 12th in 16:43.17 and Lillian Boyko 15th in 17:30.34.
    O’Brien placed 10th in the ECC meet with a 29-runner varsity field, clocking a 19:57.39 over the 5,000-meter course.  Knecht was 11th in the girls’ varsity race in 23:23.05.
    Small was 10th in the boys JV event in 13:06.02 among 19 runners.  In the girls JV race Leonard was 10th in 16:07.60 and Boyko 12th with a time of 16:54.90 in a 15-runner field.
    Deuel took the boys ECC team title with six points, followed by Great Plains Lutheran at 16, Florence-Henry 36, Clark-Willow Lake 41, and Tri-State 57.  Clark-Willow Lake was the girls champion with seven points, followed by Deuel at 26, Great Plains Lutheran 28, and Tri-State 34.
