The Britton-Hecla cross country team was back in action at Groton on Monday after having a two-week break due to a cancelled meet because of weather.
“Everyone ran really well despite the warmer weather,” said B-H coach Stephanie Symens. “We are getting our times down to where we want them to be going into the second half of the season. We also gained another runner. Danny Small ran and did great for his first meet.”
Warmer temperatures look to continue when the B-H runners travel to Sisseton on Thursday. Monday they will compete in the Eastern Coteau Conference meet in De Smet.
Joseph O’Brien led the way for Britton-Hecla at Groton with a ninth place finish in a 35-runner varsity boys’ field. The freshman ran the 5,000-meter course in 19:54.23. Livia Knecht competed in the varsity girls division and placed 11th among 17 runners with a 23:47.68 clocking for the 5,000 meters.
Small placed seventh among 16 runners in the junior varsity boys bracket with a time of 13:54.83 over the 3,000 meter route. Lillian Boyko was second in the JV girls’ race of four runners with a 16:04.44 effort.
