BRAVES WIN BIG, NOW 3-1

Bye This Week
BRAVES WIN BIG, NOW 3-1

Britton-Hecla piled up 250 yards on the ground in the first half on the way to a 53-0 win over winless Florence-Henry in a game that was called on the 50-point rule at halftime.
The win gives the Braves a 3-1 mark heading into its bye week.  The local gridders are back in action on Friday, Sept. 26, hosting Great Plains Lutheran (now 3-0) for homecoming.
“I thought we played a very effective game offensively,” said Braves’ boss Jacob Skogstad.  “W.e were efficient and physical in the run game and then we were able to capitalize on play action. I loved the way our offensive line came out and really set the tone.  Defensively we played a total game with very good team defense that showed by only allowing -16 yards.
“Our focus during the bye week will just be to get as healthy as we can and focus on improving our weaknesses,” concluded Skogstad.
Senior runningback Bryce Hawkinson, who finished the game with 171 yards on nine carries (19 yard average), started things off for the Braves with a four-yard scoring run.  Jace Rein added a five-yard score and then passed 29 yards to Mitchell Burger.  Lofton Heer added a couple of extra point kicks for a 20-0 lead after one period.
It got worse for the hosts in the second quarter with a 33-point Braves’ explosion.  Hawkinson broke loose on a 51-yard gallop, Ben Suther scored from 18 yards out and then grbbed a five-yard scoring toss from Rein, Graham Fosness ran a pass interception back 13 yards to paydirt, and Jade Tisher scored on a 44-yard run.  Three more Heer kicks made it 53-0 at halftime.
The Braves added 34 yards passing to its 250 rushing for a 284 total and Florence-Henry ended up with a minus 16 yards for the game s B-H dominated on the defensive side of the ball.  Jaxon Zuehlke had six tackles and Suther and Hawkinson had four stops apiece.
