B-H HOSTS RUNNERS
Livia Knecht
Joseph O'Brien

The Britton-Hecla cross country squad competed in a pair of meets during the past week, hosting its annual invitational last week Tuesday and traveling to Webster on Monday.
“Webster is a course that we run several times a year, so getting this first time under our belt is always great,” said B-H coach Stephanie Symens.  “We had some okay times despite the heat. We’ll keep working towards our goals of lowering our times come region time when we run this course.”
Nine teams participated in the local meet.  Great Plains Lutheran took the boys’ team title with 28 points, followed by Webster Area with 40 and Enderlin 52.  Other teams competing included Sargent Central-Lidgerwood-Oakes, Groton Area, Tri-State, Richland, Redfield, and Aberdeen Christian.  None of the girls’ team fielded a full four-runner squad.
Joseph O’Brien was Britton-Hecla’s only male varsity runner, taking 13th in the 32-runner field with a time of 21:49.53.  In the girls’ varsity event Livia Knecht was the only B-H competitor and finished eighth in the 19-runner field in 24:15.66.
At Webster O’Brien was 36th in 22:22.51 in a 57-runner varsity field and Knecht placed 35th with a 26:37.75 effort among 48 varsity runners.  Two B-H girls competed in the junior high division of 27 runners with Avery Leonard 14th in 19:18.72 and Lillian Boyko 18th with a time of 19:42.42.
