Two local school board members were recently recognized for their dedication and years of service.
Langford Area School District Board Member Jennifer Gustafson and Britton-Hecla School District Board Member Kurt Zuehlke each received the Distinguished Service Award from the Associated School Boards of South Dakota. The award honors school board members who reach milestone years of service.
Gustafson began her 15th year on the Langford Area board with the start of the 2025-26 school year. “Jennifer’s years of service on their local school board is an exemplary display of dedication to the students, staff members and community,” said ASBSD Executive Director Heath Larson. “We’re pleased to have the chance to recognize Jennifer’s commitment to their school board work.” Langford Area Superintendent Shad Storley also commended Gustafson for her service.
Zuehlke marked his 10th year on the Britton-Hecla board this fall. Larson praised his commitment as well, noting his long-standing dedication to education. Britton-Hecla Superintendent said Zuehlke has been “a tremendous asset to the BH board for a decade now. He is truly dedicated to kids and how best to serve them. He does not always say much at board meetings but when he does speak it is fair, thoughtful, spot on, and adds value to the conversation. The district is fortunate to have him on the board.”
The ASBSD is a private, nonprofit association representing more than 850 school board members and the 147 districts they serve.
