LA OKS BUDGET, ROOF PROJECT

LA OKS BUDGET, ROOF PROJECT

The Langford Area Board of Education met Monday night and approved several items, including the 2025-26 budget and tax levies.
The meeting included a public budget hearing, where the board approved tax levies for 2026 as set by state law. The general fund levy will be $5.211 per $1,000 of taxable property, agricultural property at $1.125, and owner-occupied homes at $2.518 per $1,000.
The board also revisited the roofing project discussed at last month’s meeting. The work will be managed through a purchasing cooperative, with Skywalker Roofing of Brookings completing the repairs. The estimated $112,000 project is expected to begin this weekend, weather permitting.
In other business, the board approved one student open enrolling into the district and one out, wellness center memberships for the school carnival, and participation in the Legislative Action Network, with a delegate to be chosen later.
Personnel matters included approving a contract amendment and golf coaching agreement for Michael Alberts, as well as approving Bayleann Moen as a volunteer volleyball coach.
In administrative reports, Business Manager Addison Olson noted that fall conferences are coming up and budget work continues. Superintendent Shad Storley reported that regular and substitute bus drivers are still needed, cleanup has been ongoing at the football field, and junior varsity and junior high football will soon be hosted in Langford.
The board ended the meeting with an executive session for personnel matters, with no action taken.
The next board meeting is scheduled for Oct. 13.
