Langford Area’s volleyball squad opened its season on the right foot with a sweep at Waverly-South Shore last week Tuesday.
The Lady Lions won the opening set 25-15, withstood set points to win the second 31-29, and earned the sweep with a 25-14 win. LA was back in action last night Tuesday, hosting Leola-Frederick, travels to Northwestern on Thursday, competes in the Estelline Tournament on Saturday, and hosts Aberdeen Christian on Tuesday.
“It was a nice opening win,” said LA coach Susan Larson. “We are still playing around with a few positions and learning a new serve receive rotation, and I thought the girls did great. I was super proud of their second set. They held Waverly-South Shore at game point several times and rallied hard to win. Then turned around and pulled the third set out with confidence. I thought they played well for our first match out. The JV also pulled out a nice win having to go into three sets. It was a good night to be a Lion.”
The Lady Lions had a strong serving match with 17 aces, five each from Alex Darling, Emily Olson, and Paytyn Marlow. Lizzie Gustafson led LA at the net with five kills and three blocks, and Olson and Mariah Tosse added four kills each. Marlow led the way in the set department with 10 assists and had 25 digs. Darling added 21 digs, Gustafson 18, and Olson 17.
