MC COMMISSION: OKs SHARED DEPUTY POSITIONS

MC COMMISSION: OKs SHARED DEPUTY POSITIONS

The Marshall County Commission met Tuesday morning to address a variety of county business and updates.
As part of the agenda, commissioners conducted their annual review of Public Meeting Laws in accordance with new South Dakota legislation.
Highway Superintendent Dustin Hofland reported that some county roads still have water on or near them and noted crews are working on clearing culverts to improve drainage. The commission approved a boring permit for BDM Buffalo Lake Road.
The board approved a One-Day Alcoholic Beverage License for the Shriner’s event at Fort Sisseton on September 27. Commissioners also authorized the county auditor to sign onto a new opioid settlement, which could potentially provide funds to the county.
The commission approved advertising for a Deputy Treasurer/Audtior position, noting the role would be full-time and shared between the treasurer and auditor’s offices. Additionally, Second Reading of Ordinance 72, which proposes revised zoning regulations for Marshall County, was conducted. The ordinance is expected to be formally adopted in the coming weeks.
During a teleconference with Scott Wheeler, commissioners agreed to sign a letter of support honoring Lawrence Welk, a North Dakota native, and Myron Floren of Roslyn, in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Lawrence Welk Show. Wheeler is seeking support from various entities to bolster an act of Congress recognizing the show and its cast.
Eric Senger of NECOG provided updates and led discussion on county engagement for regional meetings.
Personnel updates included the resignation of Tim Holey from the county maintenance position and the hiring of Alecia Pearson to clean the community building at $17 per hour.
The commission also approved the Local Emergency Management Performance Grant (LEMPG), which reimburses the county for 50% of the emergency management salary.
Finally, Marlin Heitmann requested to vacate a road and section line south of his property. The board advised him to first consult the township board, which would need to vacate the section line before the county could act. Executive sessions were held for personnel and contract negotiations.
The next commission meeting is scheduled for Sept. 2.
