The Langford Area School Board met Monday night and approved a proposal to repair a long-standing roof leak between the library’s main hall addition and the gym. Superintendent Shad Storley said the issue has persisted for many years and it’s time to address it. The project will be managed through a purchasing cooperative with Skywalker Roofing of Brookings handling the repairs. After some questions were satisfactorily answered, the board gave the green light for the estimated $112,000 repair, with work expected to begin in mid to late September.
The board also approved the staff wage schedule, with all wages to be published in a future edition of the Marshall County Journal.
On enrollment matters, the board approved one outgoing and three incoming open enrollment applications.
Notably, the board approved updates to the student handbooks, including changes to the cell phone policy. Storley explained that each classroom will have a designated spot for phones, or students may leave them in their lockers, limiting how often they carry their devices during the school day.
In his superintendent’s report, Storley highlighted ongoing concerns about bussing, noting the need for a regular route driver and reliable substitute drivers for both daily routes and activities. He said many schools in the state are facing shortages in support staff and drivers. Storley also mentioned upcoming trainings and meetings as the district prepares for the school year, which begins Wednesday.
