The Marshall County Commission met Tuesday morning to address a range of items.
The board approved a boring permit for County Road 16, located east of Eden.
County Treasurer Amanda Streier presented an updated Investment Policy, replacing the previous version from 2009. The revised policy allows for county funds to be invested in accordance with state law, with a preference for financial institutions in Marshall County and the South Dakota Public Funds Investment Trust.
Emergency Manager Logan Roehr asked commissioners to sign a resolution supporting 8% retirement benefits for emergency managers, aligning their retirement contributions with those of law enforcement officers and emergency responders. The board approved the resolution.
State’s Attorney Intern Bryn Samson presented a report on her summer work, which included research on patents related to trust lands in the county.
The commission held a discussion on the provisional budget and entered executive sessions to address legal matters and personnel issues.
A five-year planning meeting is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 17 at 5 p.m. at the Britton Fire Hall.
Several zoning-related actions were approved and discussed.
A variance request from Justin Bock and Kelly Burley for property in Weston Township was approved. Commissioners also approved a conditional use permit for Christopher Soine in Miller Township.
A number of building permits were acknowledged, including those for Britton Grain Terminal, LLC and Justin Bock in Miller Township and Weston Township, respectively. Additional permits were issued to Larson Construction on behalf of Chris Soine, Waletich Farm for Pete Waletich, and Network Real Estate, LLC for an AT&T project. Other approved permits included applications from Judith Schultz, Arlo Tank, Kathryn Bosse, Michael Christopherson, Person Family Trust, Michael and Diane Lentsch, and Kevin and Jessica Wiek across various townships in the county.
Planning and Zoning Director Erin Collins-Miles read the second notice for the proposed revised Zoning Regulations for Marshall County under Ordinance No. 72. The ordinance was discussed and adopted during the session, and an official notice of its adoption is scheduled to be published on August 6, 2025.
In other business, Collins-Miles informed the board that the MSAG Assistance Contract is nearly ready to begin pending credential approval from the State. She also noted that an elevation report for a property on Lake Dumarce was received the morning of the meeting and will be reviewed promptly.
