Two teams come into the tournament with just two losses on the season. Garretson is 15-2, with its’ only two losses to an upper division Volga White team that defeated Britton last week and Scotland-Menno sports a 14-2 mark.
Britton earned a state tournament berth due to its hosting the event but tuned up for tourney play in a best-of-three series with Volga White last week. Volga White will be hosting the Charlie Division State Tournament this weekend and the purpose of the series was to keep both teams sharp for state play. Volga Navy is competing in Britton.
Volga White won two straight, stopping the local nine 8-1 last week Tuesday in Britton and winning 3-0 in Volga on Thursday.
Volga used back-to-back three-run innings in the third and fourth frames to lead 7-0 and take charge of the opener, out-hitting Britton 12-7 and not committing an error in the field. Drew Heitmann tripled and doubled, and Jack Teveldal, Chaz Vietor, Max Suther, Bowen Micko, and Levi Mills added safeties.
In Thursday’s game Volga pushed across a first inning run but the game remained 1-0 until the winners added two tallies in the sixth for the sweep. Liam Peters rapped a pair of singles and Teveldal and Vietor had base hits for Britton. Vietor went the distance on the mound.
