The Britton U17 baseball team finished fourth in the state Charlie Division Tournament held in Platte last weekend and also earned the coveted Sportsmanship Award.
Garretson downed Britton in the tourney opener on Friday 8-1 but Britton bounced back in pool play with a 13-3 verdict over Parker. On Saturday the local nine stopped Kimball-White Lake 6-2 before falling to Selby 5-3 in the third place contest, finishing its season with a 16-12 record. Platte-Geddes won the state title.

Garretson used a couple of three-run innings and out-hit Britton 9-2 to take opening round of pool play.
Ben Suther and Lofton Heer came up with the only Britton hits, while five Britton pitchers were on the mound. Suther did strike out four in one and two-thirds innings.

Britton scored at least two runs in every inning and took advantage of seven Parker errors.
Will Richter laced a pair of singles, Jace Rein had a single and two RBI’s, and Suther, Colton Chapin, and Emmett Symens each had base hits. Lincoln Kilker picked up the pitching win in the game that ended after four innings on the 10-run rule.

Back-to-back three-run rallies in the second and third innings proved to be enough to get past Kimball-White Lake.
Suther rapped a double and single to lead Britton’s seven-hit attack. Dylan Redler added a double, Heer singled and knocked in two runs, and Richter, Mitchell Burger, Chapin, and Redler each had safeties. Suther pitched six and a third innings, fanning nine and walking just one.

Britton rallied from a 5-0 deficit after three innings but could not come back all the way.
Chapin, Heer, and Symens each singled for Britton’s only hits. Symens relieved Redler in the second inning and went the rest of the way, fanning four, walking just one, and giving up just one earned run.
