BRITTON U10 NINE IN STATE TOURNEY

    The Britton U10 baseball team picked up one win in the state tournament played in Webster last weekend.
    The local nine dropped four of five contests in pool play on Friday and Saturday, falling to Groton 9-0. Parker 4-3, Mobridge 7-4, and Parkston 6-0 before stopping Canova 10-1.  Britton was the fourth seed in its pool and battled Webster, who was the fourth seed in the other pool, on Sunday, dropping a 6-5 decision.

    Groton exploded for seven first inning runs on the way to its shutout victory.
    Archer Easthouse doubled and Ryker Guy, Gage Beck, and Weston Hastings added base hits.

    Parker erased a 3-2 Britton lead with two runs in the third inning and held on for the win.
    Guy tripled and singled and knocked in two runs.  Wynn Mattson added a double and Easthouse and Beck both rapped safeties.

    Britton cut a 4-0 Tigers lead down to 4-2 with a two-run rally in the third innings but the Tigers answered with three more runs in the fourth to earn the win.
    The two clubs combined for 25 hits in the contest.  Tatum Deutsch led Britton with three singles, Easthouse and Guy both doubled and singled, and Folkman, Beck, Mattson, and Corwyn Eye each singled.  Deutsch started on the mound and fanned five batters in three innings.

    Parkston did not allow a Britton hit and rode a five-run first inning to the shutout victory.

    Britton broke open a 2-1 game with an eight-run explosion in the third inning.
    The local nine out-hit Canova 11-2 with Beck, Easthouse, Eye, and Stelzer each lacing a pair of singles.  Deutsch, Guy, and Kandrick Jones each singled, and Eye and Stelzer each knocked in three runs.  Stelzer was the winning pitcher, fanning four batters in one and two-thirds innings, and Folkman struck out three in two innings of relief.

    Webster led 6-1 heading into the final inning and weathered a furious Britton rally to get the win despite being out-hit 13-10.  The local nine left runners on first and third in the final frame.
    Beck had a big game at the plate, ripping a triple and two singles and knocking in a run.  Folkman and Stelzer each singled twice, and Oliver Suther, Easthouse, Guy, Eye, Hastings, and Jones all singled.  O’Brien started on the mound and had six strikeouts.
