The Britton-Hecla/Langford Area trapshooting squad performed best when it counted most at the USA High School Clay Target League Championships held at Mason, MI, July 9-13.
Dylan Harmon, Raymond Schuster, Hunter Jensen, Camden Dinger, and Talon Dinger qualified for the national meet based on season averages at the completion of the spring season and athletes from 460 high schools across the nation participated.
The local squad placed 48th out of 264 teams in the qualifying round, hitting 471 of 500 targets, to advance to the championship round of 80. Then they hit 486 of 500 in the final round, 15 targets better than their qualifying score and the best score in team history, to move up to the 17th spot in the finals.
“We are so proud of the team’s hard work, dedication, and sportsmanship on the national stage,” said coaches. “The boys did an exceptional job at representing both Britton-Hecla and Langford Area High Schools.”
In the qualifying round Harmon led the way, hitting 99 of 100 targets. Schuster broke 96, Jensen 95, Camden Dinger 93, and Talon Dinger 88. Harmon shot another 99 in the finals, followed by Jensen with 98, Camden and Talon Dinger both broke 97, and Schuster 95.
Three of the local shooters were among the 402 that advanced to the individual finals from a field of 1,770. In the qualifying round Schuster hit 97 of 100 targets to ranks 208th, Harmon also hit 97 and stood at 213th, and Camden Dinger broke 96 to finish at 388th. Jensen’s 91 ranked 937th, and Talon Dinger hit 87 to place 1,354th.
Camden Dinger led Britton-Hecla/Langford Area in the individual finals, hitting 98 targets to place 71st. Harmon hit 97 to place 151st, and Schuster broke 92 to place 342nd.
