LA BOARD RESETS, APPROVES HIRES

LA BOARD RESETS, APPROVES HIRES

The Langford Area Board of Education held its annual reorganization meeting last Monday night, officially closing the books on the 2024–25 school year and setting plans in motion for the year ahead.
Dan Ogren was sworn in as a new board member, while Bill Jensen concluded his term of service. Jennifer Gustafson was re-elected as board president for the 2025–26 school year, with Brandon Alberts named vice president. Regular board meetings will continue to be held on the second Monday of each month at 6 p.m.
A budget hearing was also held, with officials still working to finalize figures. Superintendent Shad Storley noted that the school’s financial outlook has improved thanks to difficult decisions made in recent years and the recent passage of an opt-out. “We’re in a good spot and looking good in general,” Storley said. He added that the district’s bond will not impact taxes until 2026.
As part of the annual reorganization, the board designated official entities including the school attorney, newspaper, and banking institution, and reviewed open meeting laws as required by state law. The board also approved routine items such as advertising for bids on fuel and snow removal, naming US Foods as the district’s prime food service vendor, and setting the 2025–26 auxiliary pay schedule.
Open enrollment was approved for one incoming student, and pickup point requests for area schools remain unchanged from last year.
Staffing updates included the approval of Stuart Samson as assistant boys basketball coach, Casi Baldwyn as a new paraprofessional, and Mindy Glines and Orrie Jesz as bus drivers. Glines was also named concession manager for the upcoming year.
The board concluded the meeting by approving the superintendent’s contract for the coming year.
