U14 ADDS TWO MORE WINS

    The Britton U14 baseball team got back on track by sweeping a twin bill from Webster last week Wednesday but then dropped two contests to Groton on Monday and stands at 17-7 on the season.
    This week the local nine travels to Milbank on Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. start, plays at Clark on Sunday against Emery at 2 p.m. and Clark at 4 p.m., and plays at Sisseton on Monday at 5:30 p.m.

    Britton used a couple of big innings to record a doubleheader sweep over Webster last week Wednesday, pushing across five tallies in the third inning of the opener to erase a 3-2 deficit and taking charge of the nightcap with a seven-run second.
    The local nine out-hit Webster 9-3 and played errorless ball in the field in game one.  Max Suther laced a pair of singles, and Levi Mills, Jack Teveldal, Drew Heitmann, Chaz Vietor, Bowen Micko, Joseph O’Brien, and Luke Bosse all rapped safeties.  Suther picked up the pitching win in relief.
    In game two Webster led 1-0 early but Britton answered with two in the bottom of the first before its second inning explosion.  Drew Heitmann doubled and singled, and Vietor, Suther, Blayden Downs, and Henry Kilker had base hits.  Bowen Micko pitched three innings for the win and combined with Teveldal and Mills for nine strikeouts (three each).

    Groton tied the opener in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings and then pushed across another run in the ninth for the 4-3 win while using a seven-run second inning to take the nightcap 10-3 in three innings.
    In game one Britton had erased a 2-0 deficit with a three-run rally in the sixth, setting up Groton’s late game heroics.  Chaz Vietor, Jack Teveldal, and Max Suther each singled for Britton, which was out-hit 10-3.  Groton did not allow a Britton hit in the second contest.
