For the first time this season the Britton U14 baseball team had a losing week, dropping three of four contests and falling to 15-5 on the season.
The Aberdeen Smittys swept the local nine 12-2 and 9-2 on Monday and Britton split with Sisseton last week Wednesday, taking the opener 6-4 and losing the second game 6-3.
This week Britton hosts Webster tonight (Wednesday) at 5:30 p.m. and travels to Groton on Monday for a 5:30 p.m. start.
Britton 6-3
Sisseton 4-6
Britton split a closely-contested doubleheader with Sisseton, erasing a 4-0 deficit to win game one and dropping an extra inning affair in the nightcap.
Sisseton led 4-0 in the top of the second inning in game one before the local nine scored twice in the bottom of the second, once in the third and three times in the fourth while blanking Sisseton in the final three frames. Max Suther tripled and singled and knocked in a pair of runs to lead Britton’s five-hit attack. Bowen Micko added a double and single and two RBI’s, and Chaz Vietor singled. Suther also earned the pitching win in relief, fanning five in two and a third innings and not allowing a hit. Liam Peters also pitched a perfect inning of relief.
In game two each club scored a run in the third before Sisseton took a 3-1 lead after four. Britton knotted the contest with two tallies in the bottom of the fifth to force an extra inning when the visitors pushed across three runs for the final margin. Vietor, Suther, Jacob Folkman, and Luke Bosse each singled. Micko started on the mound and went five innings, fanning eight, while Bosse was tagged with the loss in relief.
