U17 REGIONAL PLAY NEXT WEEK
Britton’s Dylan Redler had a good jump on this base-stealing attempt in recent U17 baseball action. The local diamondmen travel to Elkton to open regional play on Monday in a best-of-three series.

    Britton ’s U17 baseball squad will wrap up regular season play this week and kick off regional play on Monday in Elkton.
    The local nine picked up one win in three starts during the past week and stands at 9-9 on the season.
    Britton  split two with Warner-Ipswich-Northwestern (WIN) last week Tuesday, dropping the opener 8-7 but taking the nightcap 7-5, and then fell to WIN on Monday 14-2.  Britton traveled to Milbank last night Tuesday.
    This week the local diamondmen will wrap up its regular season schedule at Sisseton on Thursday and open regional play at Elkton on Monday in a best-of-three series.  Two games will be played in Elkton beginning at 3 p.m. with a third game, if needed, set for Britton on Tuesday at 6 p.m.  The winner of the series will advance to the state tournament July 25-27 while the loser will compete with three other series losers for two state slots next week Thursday in a single elimination event.

    Warner-Ipswich-Northwestern (WIN) posted a walk-off win in the opener and Britton bounced back to take the nightcap last week Tuesday.
    Game one was a seesaw affair with WIN leading 2-0 after one, Britton led 4-3 in the top of the fourth and WIN took the lead back 5-4 in the bottom of the inning, Britton was back up 6-5 in the fifth, WIN led 7-6 in the sixth, and Britton tied the game in the seventh to set up WIN’s walk-off win in the bottom of the seventh.  The local nine out-hit the hosts 10-6 as Ben Suther laced three singles, Will Richter collected two singles and a pair of RBI’s, Lofton Heer singled twice, and Jace Rein, Colton Chapin, and Nathan Folkman each had safeties.  Dylan Redler started on the mound, striking out four in four innings.
    Britton took charge early in the nightcap, pushing across four runs in the opening inning, adding another in the second, and two more in the third for a 7-2 lead.  Chapin picked up the pitching win and helped his own cause with a double, single, and four RBI’s.  Folkman tripled, and Richter, Suther, Rein, and Folkman each added base hits.

    WIN used a couple of big innings to roll past Britton on Monday, pushing across five tallies in the first inning and deciding the issue with a seven-run fifth.
     Dylan Redler laced a pair of singles, and Will Richter, Mitchell Burger, Ben Suther, Kaden Mills, Colton Chapin, and Lincoln Kilker each added a base hit.  WIN held an 11-8 hit advantage in the contestr.  Four Britton pitcher were on the mound with Burger and Redler each fanning four.
