THREE TOUGH LOSSES FOR U17 NINE IN LOCAL CLASSIC
Britton U17 baseball players from left to right Lofton Heer, Will Richter, and Bryce Hawkinson celebrated an inning-ending play during the Bring the Heat Classic held in Britton on Saturday and Sunday. The local diamondmen dropped a trio of hard-fought games in the round-robin format.

    Britton’s U17 baseball team came out on the short end of three hard-fought games in the Bring the Heat Classic held in Britton Saturday and Sunday and split a twin bill at Groton on Thursday.
    Platte came up with a no-hitter as the local nine dropped a 5-0 decision in the Classic opener Saturday, Milbank scored two in the final inning to post a 5-4 decision on Sunday, and the Classic champion Aberdeen Smittys exploded for five runs in the final frame to win 10-5 in the Sunday finale.  On Thursday Groton took the opener 10-3 but Britton rebounded with a 13-3 decision in the nightcap.
    This week Britton, now 8-7 for the season, travels to Milbank on Tuesday.

    Platte scored the only run it needed in the first inning and K. Kuiper did not allow a hit and struck out eight.
    Britton’s Ben Suther also went the distance on the mound and fanned eight batters.

    Milbank broke a 0-0 deadlock in the fifth inning with three runs.  Britton answered with four in its half of the inning but Milbank came back with two in the sixth and blanked the locals in the bottom of the frame for the win.
    Mitchell Burger, Bryce Hawkinson, Dylan Redler, and Lofton Heer each singled for Britton.  Burger went four and two-thirds of an inning on the mound, fanning nine.  Kaden Mills was tagged with the pitching loss in relief.

    Aberdeen led just 5-4 after four innings but took charge with its five-run explosion in the fifth.
    Colton Chapin doubled and singled, Hawkinson laced a pair of safeties, and Burger, Redler, Mills, and Nathan Folkman had singles.

    Groton scored in every inning of the first contest to get the win and Britton jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the second inning of the nightcap to earn the split.
    Suther laced a pair of singles, and Will Richter, Heer, Redler, Jace Rein, Chapin, and Lincoln Kilker each added safeties for Britton in the first game.  Redler started on the mound and three hurlers combined for nine strikeouts.
    In game two Britton took charge early, out-hitting Groton 9-4 and taking advantage of six errors.  Hawkinson and Rein each had a pair of singles, Chapin doubled, and Burger, Richter, Symens, and Mills had base hits.  Suther picked up the pitching win with three innings of relief from Kilker.
