U10 JR. JACKS WIN BIG FOR CONSOLATION TITLE

    The Britton U10 Junior Jacks baseball team rebounded from a tough opening round loss to take the consolation title at a tournament in Groton on Saturday, while the U10 Red squad dropped three of four contests in the past week.
    Milbank derailed Britton 4-2 in the tourney opener as the local nine left bases loaded in the final inning, but Britton battled back to stop Clark 8-2 and trounced Webster 20-1 in the consolation championship.
    Britton Red split a twin bill with Milbank last week Tuesday, falling 14-11 in the first game but taking the nightcap 11-7.  Last week Monday the Aberdeen Smittys swept the local diamondmen 13-1 and 17-1.

    Britton pounded out 18 hits, scoring eight runs in the first inning and 10 more in the third to roll past Webster.
    Ryker Guy slammed a homer and single and collected four RBI’s to pace the Britton attack.  Reeve Knecht doubled and singled, Corwyn Eye rapped two singles and had four RBI’s, Gannon Peters and Kandrick Jones had two safeties each, Oliver Suther and Mark Folkman both doubled, and Archer Easthouse, Gage Beck, Tatum Deutsch, Hezi O’Brien, Jase Stelzer, and Elias Leonard each singled.  Deutsch went two innings on the mound, fanning four, and Stelzer pitched an inning of relief, striking out the side.

    Britton led 4-2 after three innings and took charge in the fourth with a four-run rally.
    Tyler Wurst had a pair of singles and three RBI’s and Folkman, Eye, Beck, and Guy added base hits for the winners.  Easthouse earned the pitching win, striking out eight in just three innings.

    Britton drew first blood with a run in the first but Milbank answered with two in the second and two more in the third before weathering Britton’s late rally in the fifth.
    Wurst doubled and Knecht singles for Britton’s only hits.  Knecht started on the mound and fanned five in three innings while Folkman and Easthouse each pitched an inning of relief and struck out two each.

    Milbank broke a 3-3 tie with six second innings runs and added five more in the third to outdistance Britton Red in game one.  Wynn Mattson led the locals with a 3-3 performance at the plate, ripping a triple, double, and single and knocking in a pair of runs.  Deutsch tripled and had three RBI’s, and Folkman and Guy each singled.  Eye struck out five in an inning and two-thirds.
    In game two Britton erased a 6-5 deficit with six runs in the final inning.  Mattson and Folkman each doubled and singled, Jones and Guy rapped doubles, and Peters and Eye each singled.  Fookman started on the mound and fanned five and Guy picked up the pitching win in relief.

    Britton Red ran into a buzzsaw in Aberdeen as the hosts scored in every inning of the doubleheader and limited the local nine to a total of five hits.
    The Smitty’s scored five in each of the first two innings of game one to take charge.  Mattson doubled and Deutsch and Knecht singled.  In the nightcap Britton pushed across a run in the top of the first but Aberdeen answered with five counters in the bottom half of the inning and scored four in the each of the next three frames.  Guy had two singles for Britton’s only hits.
