U12 CONSOLATION CHAMPS
Britton U12 hurler Isaac Richter delivered a pitch in baseball action last week. The local nine claimed the consolation title at a tpournament in Sisseton on Sunday.

    The Britton U12 baseball team came home with the consolation trophy a tournament held in Sisseton on Sunday.
    The local nine fell to Groton in the opening game 15-1 but rallied for a 15-0 win over Sisseton anmd a 9-5 decision over Lidgwood, ND, to take consolation honors.  Britton had a busy week with two other twin bills, falling twice to the Aberdeen Smittys 8-7 and 19-9 last week Tuesday and splitting with Webster on Monday, taking the opener 7-4 but losing the nightcap 6-1.
    This week the U12 crew plays at Milbank on Thursday, travels to Groton on Monday, and hosts the Aberdeen Smittys next week Wednesday.

    Britton took a 7-6 lead into the final inning of the opener but the Smittys rallied for two in the bottom of the fifth for the win.  Jones tripled, Heitkamp doubled, and Medhaug, Peters, Richter, and Dawson all singled.  Richter went three innings on the mound, striking out six.
    The local nine opened the nightcap with a five-run rally, but Aberdeen answered with five of its own in the bottom of the third and scored four in the second, and five in each of the third and fourth frames despite being out-hit 10-8.  The Smittys benefitted from 17 walks.  Peters and Dawson both rapped two singles, Richter and Medhaug doubled, and Elsen, Biel, Bennett Ahlgren, and O’Brien each had safeties.

    Britton erased a 4-0 deficit with five runs in the fourth and tacked on a pair of insurance tallies in the fifth to stop Webster in the opener.  Peters, Heitkamp, Dawson, and Elsen each singled for Britton.  Dawson npicked up the pitching win in relief.
    Webster scored in every inning of the nightcap and limited Britton to a single tally to earn the split.  Elsen singled twice, Medhaug doubled, and Peters, Dawson, and Heitkamp added singles.  Elsen pitched three and two-thirds of an inning in relief and fanned four.

    Groton scored in each of the four innings, deciding the issue with a seven-run fourth.
    Cooper Elsen singled twice and Corbin Dawson laced a safety for Britton.  Isaac Richter fanned eight batters in just three innings.

    A 12-run first inning explosion decided the issue early as Britton out-hit Sisseton 16-2.
    Richter and Jackson Medhaug both doubled and singled twice and Cullen Peters laced three singles to lead Britton at the plate.  Brady Heitkamp had two singles and three RBI’s and Elsen singled twice.  Jones doubled, and Colton Biel, and Dawson had safeties.  Ben O’Brien was the winning pitcher.

    Britton pushed across four runs in both the second and fourth innings to take charge against Lidgerwood.
    Richter had a big night at the plate, going 4-4 with a double and three singles, scoring three times, and knocking in a pair of runs.  Medhaug and Jones both doubled, and Heitkamp and Elsen added base hits.  O’Brien was the winning pitcher, fanning four in three innings, and Medhaug pitched three innings of relief with six K’s.
