The Britton U14 baseball team tacked on four more wins while losing its first game of the season in a 17-inning marathon at a tournament in Winner last weekend.
The local nine, now 8-1, swept two from Claremont last week Tuesday in a pair of three-inning contests 13-1 and 1-0. Britton lost to Winner in the tournament opener 6-5 in 17 innings but battled back to take the consolation title with wins over Chamberlain 11-5 and Parkston 12-11.
This week the U14 squad is at Webster tonight (Wednesday), at Clear Lake Thursday, and host Clear Lake next week Wednesday.

Claremont scored its run in the top of the first of the opener but Britton answered with three in the bottom of the inning and tacked on four-run and six-run rallies in the next two frames.
Chaz Vietor tripled and singled and collected a pair of RBI’s. Liam Peters had a pair of base hits, and Drew Heitmann, Jack Teveldal, and Max Suther each singled. Maverick Strong earned the pitching win, fanning four in two innings. Nick Cutler, Mckane, Morehouse, and Zerr each singled for the Honkers.
Britton scored a run in the bottom of the final inning of the nightcap to earn the sweep with each team managing just two hits. Suther and Bowen Micko singled for Britton and Glines and Schuller singled for Claremont. Micko went the distance on the mound to get the pitching win, striking out two.

The tournament opener was tied 2-2 after the regulation six innings but would end up going 11 more frames before being decided. Extra inning rules for the tourney placed a runner at second with one out in the seventh inning for each team and in all innings after that teams started with a runner at third with two outs. Britton had leads in both the ninth and 16th innings but Winner answered in both cases before pushing across the game-winner in the bottom of the 17th.
Vietor laced a pair of singles and Teveldal and Heitmann added safeties for Britton. Vietor went seven innings and Liam Peters relieved in the eighth.

Britton broke a 1-1 deadlock with four tallies in the third innings and took charge of a 5-3 contest with a six-run explosion in the fifth despite being out-hit for the game 10-3.
Teveldal laced a double and single and knocked in two runs to lead the locals at the plate. Micko added a single and two RBI’s as Britton took advantage of nine walks and a pair of Chamberlain errors.
Peters earned the pitching win, going three innings and fanning four. Micko and Levi Mills came on in relief.

Britton erased a 4-1 deficit with six runs in the third inning and boosted that to 12-4 before weathering a seven-run Parkston rally in the bottom of the final frame.
Suther had a double, two singles, and three RBI’s to lead Britton’s attack. Vietor added a double and single, Heitmann laced a pair of singles, and Teveldal, Henry Kilker, and Joseph O’Brien had base hits. Heitmann pitched four and a third innings and struck out seven to get the win. Micko relieved to get the final two outs.
