LA BOARD TALKS FEES, BUDGET PLANNING

LA BOARD TALKS FEES, BUDGET PLANNING

The Langford Area Board of Education met Monday. They discussed the possibility of charging a fee for public records requests. Board members noted that when members of the public request materials or documentation, it requires administrative time and resources. The board directed administration to research how other school districts handle such fees. The matter will be revisited next month.
The board scheduled the 2024–2025 budget hearing for July 10 and also submitted their vote in the SDHSAA runoff election for a board principal-at-large seat. Langford Area voted in support of Brittney Eide.
The board renewed its property and liability insurance coverage for the 2025–2026 school year. Additionally, members discussed the district’s “Return to Learn” plan, which remains in place as a post-pandemic protocol document.
In administrative reports, Superintendent Shad Storley noted he is seeking estimates to replace the locker room doors and to repair rust damage on the east-facing front door. Staff are also considering an interior facelift for the main office, potentially using in-house resources for painting and upkeep. Storley also noted that they are actively recruiting bus drivers, which continues to be a challenge, and hope to soon fill open paraprofessional positions.
The July school board meeting has been rescheduled for July 10 at 7 a.m.
