Two Britton-Hecla golfers competed in the state golf meet in Watertown last week Tuesday.
Jace Rein carded a 102-85-187 to finish 120th at the Cattail Crossing golf Course, while Sage Ford shot a 122-133-255 to place 93rd at Prairie Winds Golf Course. Individual winners were Trevor Schultz of Wall in the boys tourney with a one-over-par 145, while Brynn Roehrich of Clark-Willow Lake shot an even par 144 to claim the girls crown.
“State golf was a good experience for our two qualifying golfers,” said B-H coach Ryan Nack. “Shaking off the nerves of a big golf tournament and working on the mental and mechanical aspects throughout the two days is something we can take with us moving forward with our golf game. Even though goals we may have had may have not been reached, Jace and Sage have nothing to hang their head about. I am proud of them and all the golfers who went out for Britton-Hecla golf this year.
“This past golf season had a great turn out as far as numbers go for both junior high and high school teams. We soaked up the rules of the game and I hope we continue to see the passion for the game of golf grow with every one of these players. I would like to thank the Britton Country Club for the use of their great golf course. I also would like to thank Coach Garret Knebel, along with Maynard Bosse, for all their efforts in teaching this wonderful game of golf to these kids.”
Hanson claimed a one-shot win for the boys team title over Wall, while St. Mary’s won the girls team championship by eight shots over Miller. Teams had to have three qualifying players to compete for team honors.
