Seven Langford Area athletes will be competing in the state track meet in Sioux Falls Thursday through Saturday.
The top 24 individuals and teams in each event during the regular season earned spots in the state meet. Coach Brian Schuring’s squad competed in Warner on Friday in the final meet of the season. A scheduled meet in Webster on Thursday was cancelled due to wet conditions.
Paytyn Marlow is a three-time state qualifier for LA. She ranked 14th in the 100-meter dash, was in a two-way tie for the 24th position in long jump, and teamed up with Brooke Dwight, Bailey Dwight, and Lizzie Gustafson to earn the 24th spot in the 400 relay. Emily Olson was also an individual qualifier in triple jump in the 24th position.
Two boys earned trips to the state meet, both in the 110 hurdles. Caleb Mertz finished in the 23rd spot and Julian Rodriguez had the 25th best time but moved into the top 24 when a higher-ranked athlete was unable to compete in the state event.
