MEMORIAL DAY PROGRAMS PLANNED!

    Area communities will hold special remembrances for deceased veterans on Monday in recognition of Memorial Day.
    Area residents and businesses are asked to fly flags at half mast until noon on Monday in honor of those who have served and died. This unique custom honors the war dead for the morning and living veterans for the rest of the day.
    Britton American Legion Post 80 will honor fallen soldiers and veterans in Lake City at the Catholic Cemetery at 8:30 a.m. A prayer and a reading will be shared. 
    Post 80 will then move on to their regular service at the Britton cemetery at 10 a.m.  A small program will be held including the 21-gun salute and taps. A memorial listing all fallen soldiers and veterans who are buried at the Britton Cemetery will be posted one week prior to Memorial Day and one week following.
    A program is planned at the Langford Legion Hall at 10 a.m. Rolls and coffee will be served before and after the program.  Veterans will be honored at the Hillside Cemetery immediately following the program.
    Memorial Day services in Pierpont will begin with military honors at 9:30 a.m. at Skudesness Church and 9:45 a.m. at Bergen Church. A program will be held at 11 a.m. in Pierpont, followed by a ceremony at Homer Cemetery and a meal served by the Pierpont American Legion Auxiliary at Ponts. Meal prices are $10 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under. This will be the final year the Pierpont Legion and Auxiliary are active.
    The Legion Post #76 Color Guard from Veblen will present a prayer, a 21-gun salute, and Taps at four cemeteries beginning at the Palestine Church at 10 a.m.  The Color Guard will be at the Veblen Cemetery at 10:30 a.m., the Catholic Cemetery south of Veblen at 11 a.m., and the Zion Lutheran Church at 11:30 a.m. with a lunch to follow.  
    In the Veblen/Kidder area, a 10:15 graveside service is planned at Trondhjem Cemetery. 
Pleasant Valley Church will hold its Memorial Day program with cemetery rites beginning at 11 a.m., followed by a speaker at 11:30 a.m. Former Representative Chris Reder will deliver the address, and a community dinner will be served at noon.
    Zion Lutheran Church rural Hillhead will hold its annual fundraiser dinner on Monday with military rites at 11:30, dinner and program to follow. Guest speaker will be U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant Riley Aadland. Entertainment “Ole Olson Trio,” Pallansch Family, and an interactive song with the audience. 
    A Memorial Day Program at the Hecla Community Center will start at 10 a.m.  A cemetery tribute service will follow the program at the Hecla Cemetery, and a freewill donation lunch will be served at the Community Center following the cemetery service.
