The Britton City Council met Monday night. The council convened as the Zoning Board to consider a request from resident Jason Bender to place a single-wide trailer on property he owns north of the water tower on Britton’s east side. City Attorney Justin Scott presented a draft ordinance that would allow the installation. Following discussion, amendments were made to the ordinance, specifically regarding foundation and footing requirements. The council approved the first reading of the ordinance with those changes.
Engineer Michael Redenbaugh of ISG updated the council on the Main Lift Station project, reporting that progress has been delayed due to maintenance issues with two excavators. He said work is expected to resume later this week or early next week.
Darrel Eikamp brought a question before the council regarding water and sewer hookups for a new detached garage he is building. The current ordinance requires separate hookups for each building. However, Scott noted that the ordinance could be amended to allow an exception for detached garages, as long as language is included to address potential future use as a separate residence. Mayor Clyde Fredrickson emphasized the importance of considering long-term usage in such cases.
The council also approved a 10-year agreement with the Britton Fire Department, providing an annual $4,000 fuel donation. Minor language adjustments were made before the agreement was finalized.
A special event permit was approved for a fireworks show sponsored by Tammy Bender during Harvest Days. Approval was granted on the condition that all county, state, and local fire regulations are followed.
In other action, the council:
-Approved wages for summer hires.
-Appointed three election workers for the upcoming June 3 election.
-Approved two special alcohol licenses for Snapper’s.
The next regular city council meeting is scheduled for June 9.
