Langford Area’s Paytyn Marlow brought home a pair of first place finishes in the 100 dash and long jump from Milbank last week Tuesday and teamed up with Brooke Dwight, Emily Olson, and Lizzie Gustafson to win the 400 relay at Sisseton on Friday.
Coach Brian Schuring’s squad competed at the Lake Region Conference meet in Ipswich yesterday (Tuesday), travels to Warner on Monday, and wraps up the regular season at Webster next week Thursday, May 22. The top 24 times/distances in each event at the conclusion of the regular season will advance to the state meet in Sioux Falls May 29-31.
“The Milbank Valley Cheese meet was a good day for the Lions,” said Schuring. “We had a lot of PR’s from everyone, which was nice to see. We are getting closer to the end of the season and are turning the corner to getting ourselves better.
“The Sisseton meet gave us a chance to compete against some Minnesota and North Dakota schools. This is nice to see competitors that we don’t normally see. We had some kids try new events to see if we can put some different relays together in the next couple weeks.”
Currently, Marlow ranks 13th in the state in the 100 dash with a 12.85 effort and 18th in long jump at 15-9. Emily Olson stands at 18th in the triple jump with a leap of 31-10.5 and Julian Rodriguez ranks 23rd in the 110 hurdles with an 18.20 clocking.
