The Langford Area golf squad played in two meets during the past week to tune up for the Region 1B tournament set for Watertown on Monday.
The LA linksters competed in Eureka on Thursday and were at Leola last week Tuesday. Langford Area did not compete at the pre-regional event in Watertown on Monday due to a band concert. Coach Michael Alberts’ squad will wrap up regular season play at Ipswich on Friday before the regional tourney at the Cattail Crossing Golf Course in Watertown.
“Our golfers keep improving every week and are starting to get a little more consistency,” said LA coach Michael Alberts. “The kids have improved in all areas of their game during the season. With regions coming up, we want to be playing at our best. We are still working on our short game and having consistent straight hits from the tee box all the way to the green and finishing out the hole. Since we weren’t able to make the pre-region it took a little practice away from us at Cattail Crossing, but our golfers are going to go do the best they can on Monday.”
Rennan Bruns led the Lions’ boys squad at Eureka, firing a 46 in the nine-hole event. Ryder Smith, Bradyn Small, and Conner Gines all carded 55’s, Dawson Vander Vorst had a 57, Jo Nunes 63, and Ale Jativa 92. Shaina Kleeman was the only golfer in the girls’ division for LA and shot a 79.
Langford Area fielded a full boys team at Leola, placing third in the four-team field. Britton-Hecla won the team title with a 132 total, followed by Herreid at 161, Langford Area 166, and Leola 179.
Small led LA golfers with a 45 for the nine holes, placing fourth. Bruns was 12th with a 60, Smith 13th at 61, and Vander Vorst 14th at 63. Kleeman placed 10th in the girls’ bracket with a 77.
In the junior varsity division at Leola Tucker Hardy was ninth in the boys bracket with a 68, and Mariah Tosse finished third for the girls with a 71.
