B-H GOLFERS SET FOR REGION MONDAY

    The Britton-Hecla golf squads had a preview of the Region 1B tournament site when they competed at Cattail Crossing (boys) and Prairie Winds (girls) golf courses in Watertown on Monday.
    Region 1B is set for this coming Monday at 9:30 a.m.  The top two teams and top 40 percent of individuals will qualify for the state tournament in Watertown June 2-3.
    The Eastern Coteau Conference meet was held in conjunction with the pre-regional.  B-H golfers also competed in the Northeast Conference tourney held at Hamlin on Friday and played a dual at Leola last week Tuesday.
    “The wind was something else the entire day at Watertown, but we battled through it the best we could,” said B-H coach Ryan Nack.  “Our focus heading into next Monday’s region golf tournament needs to be sticking the golf ball pure as many strokes as possible and hitting our targets.”
    Britton-Hecla’s boys placed eighth in the 17-team field at Watertown and second behind Florence-Henry in the ECC chase, nine shots back.  The B-H girls were seventh among nine teams and second among ECC squads, finishing 31 strokes behind Waverly-South Shore.
    In the NEC meet on Friday the Britton-Hecla boys were fifth among five squads and the girls second in a three-team field.  Britton-Hecla’s boys posted a 29-stroke win in Leola with a 132 total, rolling past Herreid at 161, Langford Area 166, and Leola 179.  Leola won the girls bracket with a 165 total over Britton-Hecla at 191.
    Lofton Heer led the B-H boys at Watertown with an 88, good for the 22nd spot in the 67-golfer field.  Braun Kadoun was 25th with a 90, Nate Schuller 35th at 95, and Carter Grobe 49th at 100.  Jace Rein was forced to withdraw during the round due to an injury.
    In the girls’ bracket Sage Ford topped B-H golfers with a 107 for 10th place among 41 golfers.  McKenna Heer carded a 114 to tie for 15th, and Corinne Bosse was 39th with a 159.
    Rein led the way in the NEC meet with a 90, good for 17th place in the 25-golfer field.  Schuller also carded a 90 for 18th,Heer was 21st with a 92, Kadoun 22nd at 95, and Grobe 23rd with a 103. 
    Ford led the girls’ squad, placing eighth among 14 golfers with a 101.  Heer was 10th at 109, and  Bosse 14th at 131. 
    In the Leola meet Heer earned medalist honors and led the Braves with a 42 over the nine holes.  Rein was second with a 43, Kadoun fifth at 47, and Schuller was 11th with a 55.
    Heer led the Lady Braves with a 53, good for second place.  Ford was eighth at 66, Bosse ninth with a 72, and Kya McLaen 11th at 94.
    B-H had three boys that competed in the junior varsity division.  Carter Grobe took first place honors with a 44, Peyton Pearson was second with a 47, and Monty Angstman places seventh at 67.
