The Sisseton-Britton-Webster high school baseball squad earned its first wins of the season on Sunday in dominating fashion.
Coach Mark Nelson’s crew rolled past the Miller Outlaws 13-3 and stopped Elkton 8-3 in a twin bill played in Elkton.  The wins were the first in the team’s initial year on the diamond and boosted its season mark to 2-3.
The local diamondmen were scheduled to host North Border on Monday but that contest was cancelled due to weather.  Sioux Valley comes to Sisseton for the team’s first home game of the season on Saturday at 1 p.m.  Sunday SBW plays at Madison-Chester at 3 p.m.
“There was a lot of energy in the dugout and a great step forward to building team chemistry,” said Nelson.  “Definitely some things to clean up, but this weekend was a big step in the right direction for our program. This is a special group of players and a great group of parents that have sacrificed a lot and worked hard to make this program successful. It was nice to see that pay off this weekend. I’ve been stressing this week going into our games that I believe our team is a winner and kids are starting to buy into that.”

Ben Suther struck out 11 batters and allowed just two hits in four and two-thirds innings and his teammates provided offensive punch with 10 hits in the 10-run victory.
“The boys got the bats going,” noted Nelson.  “I was very happy with the way they showed up and played. They played confident and loose and really had fun.”
SBW scored twice in the top of the first inning and never trailed, tacking on two more in the second, a run in the third, and exploded for five in the fourth to take a commanding 9-1 advantage.  Chaz Vietor relieved Suther in the fifth and allowed just one run and one hit the rest of the way, fanning two.
Max Dahlen led the offensive charge with a double and single, knocking in a run.  Carter Stickland, Kaden Mills, and Colton Chapin each added two safeties and Chapin collected three RBI’s.  Suther and Mitchell Burger each added singled and Burger knocked in a pair of runs.  SBW took advantage of 10 walks and stole six bases.

SBW jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, padded that lead to 7-0 after four and cruised to the win.
LJ Crooks pitched five strong innings, allowing just three hits and striking out eight.  Kaden Mills came on in relief and did not allow a hit, while walking just one, in two innings.
“Crooks pitched really well for us, and I was very proud of how he started and finished the game,” said Nelson.  “It was a very gutsy performance from a great player and great kid.  Mills also finished the game very well, and Max Dahlen played really well for us both offensively and defensively.”
Levi Nelson and Dahlen each picked up a pair of hits to lead SBW’s nine-hit attack.  Nelson also added three stolen bases and the team came up with seven thefts.  Stickland, Suther, Rylan Anderson, Crooks, and Chapin each singled.
