The Langford Area School Board met Monday to address a range of topics. The board accepted the resignation of Basil Knebel, who served as a school bus driver.
They also discussed snow days. Two days have been used so far and will be forgiven. However, if additional days are missed, they will be made up later in the school year.
The board approved the 2025-26 school calendar. The first day of school for students is scheduled for Aug. 20, with the final day planned for May 18. Graduation is set for May 16. The calendar also includes an additional in-service day in February, planned as a day of advocacy in Pierre.
The board continues to explore options for operating the concession stand. Discussions are ongoing, and school officials are seeking input and volunteers to help define how the concession stand will be run moving forward.
Work agreements for coaches and activity advisors were also approved. A full list of those agreements can be found in the official board minutes.
Superintendent Shad Storley reported preparations are underway for graduation and end-of-year awards. He also expressed a desire to establish a capital outlay committee to focus on the five-year plan addressing larger projects and long-term needs. Budget planning remains a priority, with opt-out benefits not set to begin until May 2026.
The board approved the renewal of health insurance with the Associated School Boards Protective Trust, noting only a 1% increase in premiums. Renewals for worker’s compensation insurance were also approved.
Additionally, the board approved continued membership in the district cooperative and the South Dakota High School Activities Association for the next school year.
