B-H Runners Battle Wind

B-H Runners Battle Wind

The Britton-Hecla cross country team had the chance to experience very windy conditions while competing at Groton on Monday.
“The kids ran really well even though it was very windy,” said B-H coach Stephanie Symens.  “It was our first really windy cross country meet and it was great to see that they ran well despite the wind.”
Britton-Hecla travels to Sisseton on Thursday where runners will get a taste of upcoming competition in the Northeast Conference and Region 1 meets.  Monday Symens’ squad will travel to Clear Lake for the Eastern Coteau Conference Meet with the NEC on Oct. 10 in Webster and the regional Oct. 16 in Webster.
“We will see some of the NEC and regional team at Sisseton and it will be a good meet to see how well the runners are doing at this time of the season,” concluded Symens.
Jeris Stark was Britton-Hecla’s top finisher in Groton, taking fifth in a 17-runner field in the girls varsity race with a time of 23:53.46.  Livia Knecht was ninth in 24:588.01.  Joseph O’Brien placed 22nd among 32 runners in the boys varsity event in 23:32.82.
Mia Kilker topped the B-H junior varsity runners, taking seventh in 16:23.41.  Avery Leonard was ninth in 16:44.68, Lillian Boyko 10th in 17:04.19, and Ceci Anderson 13th in 19:03.89.
Frederick Area won the boys varsity team title with 10 points, followed by Ellendale at 11, Florence-Henry 25, and Tri-State 38.  Florence-Henry was the only school to field a full girls varsity team.
