At the Langford Area School Board meeting on Monday night, one of the agenda items was to approve administrative contracts for the 2023-24 school year. The board approved Mary Hosford as K-12 principal as well as business manager Ginger Olson. They did not, however, approve a contract with current superintendent Ryan Bruns. Rather, the board moved to advertise the superintendent position.
Bruns took over the position last summer from Brett Gibbs. Bruns had been placed on temporary administrative leave in October but returned to the position within a short time. LA School Board President Jennifer Gustafson noted that the plan is for Bruns to finish his contract ending June 30.
In other business, the board heard from their playground committee. The district is actively working on an update for their playground. Committee members include JaKelle Hardy, Jessica Cole, Charmayne Cole and Fallon Deutsch. The district will be obtaining bids soon and hope to have phase one ready by this fall.
They discussed snow day pay for hourly employees. During the four day snow stretch in December , the district was able to utilize remote learning and will not have to add additional days to their calendar. Therefore, they will honor those days in pay for the hourly staff as well to honor those contracts.
The group continued working on updating their kindergarten policy to ensure it is consistent across the district, including their colony school. They set the school board elections for June 6. The district is advertising for additional substitute teachers and a PT/FT office assistant.
