U8 Squad Fourth At State Tourney

Britton took its U8 Junior Jacks baseball team to the state tournament in Madison for the first time last weekend and came home with a fourth place trophy.

A total of 30 teams all competed in one class and after pool play were divided into three different brackets. Britton beat Avengers Blue from Mitchell in the first round of pool play 11-0, and then dropped decisions to the West Central Rebels 11-4 and the Brandon Valley Black Sox 11-0 in pool play games to earn a spot in the White Bracket.

In bracket play the local nine stopped the Brandon Valley Little Lynx 7-6, defeated Madison 8-6, fell to Bon Homme 16-13 in semifinal play after battling back and leaving bases loaded in the final inning, and lost to the Brandon Valley Black Sox 11-1 in the third placed contest.

“I thought we played really well, especially playing some pretty big towns,” said Britton coach Adam Suther. “We played good defense and hit the ball really well. A pitching machine is used in the state tournament and that was something we were not used to, but I thought we adjusted to that pretty well.”
