Matmen Set For Regional Saturday

The Britton-Hecla wrestling squad tuned up for the Region 1B tournament in Sioux Valley (Volga) on Saturday by competing in the Northeast Conference Tournament in Webster on Saturday.

The Britton-Hecla wrestling squad tuned up for the Region 1B tournament in Sioux Valley (Volga) on Saturday by competing in the Northeast Conference Tournament in Webster on Saturday.

Just five B-H matmen competed on Saturday due to part of the squad participating in the South Dakota State Middle School Tournament in Pierre. Those middle school grapplers are not eligible to compete in the regional event this week.

Competing for the Braves this Saturday will be Bryce Heitkamp at 120, Collin Beaner at 152, Dashel Davidson at 160, Conner Glines at 170, Dane Hansen at 195, and Tucker Hardy at 285. Hardy was not able to compete in the NEC meet due to a skin rash. The top four placers in each weight bracket advance to the state meet in Rapid City Feb. 23-25.

“Everybody has to bring their ‘A’ game,” said B-H coach Josh Hawkinson. “We will still condition pretty hard early this week and work on our favorite stuff later in the week. We will stay in Volga Friday night because wrestlers have to be there by 7 a.m. Saturday.”

Two grapplers picked up wins in the NEC meet. Heitkamp picked up a pin in the 120-pound wrestlebacks to place fourth, while Collin Beaner earned a pin and decision to place fourth at 152. Conner Glines was third at 170 and Dane Hansen fourth at 195 but neither wrestler posted wins in short brackets.

Poll: END OR RETAIN EXPANDED MEDICAID COVERAGE? South Dakota voters will decide in November on a proposed constitutional amendment that would end the state’s expanded Medicaid coverage if the federal government’s share of funding for the expansion falls below 90%. The expansion, approved by voters in 2022, provides Medicaid eligibility to certain adults ages 19 to 64 with incomes up to the federal limit established by the constitutional amendment. The proposed amendment would remove that expanded coverage if the federal funding level drops below 90%. If the election were held today, how would you vote?
