Auxiliary Honors Young Writers

    On Monday, March 18, the local winners of the American Legion Auxiliary Poetry and Essay contests were guests of Auxiliary Unit #80 in Britton for supper. Awards for the top three placers in each category were given.  Winners also read their papers. Family members, teachers and the members of the American Legion were also guests. It was also a celebration of the Legion’s 105th Birthday. The first-place winners’ papers in each class now go on to District competition.
    The topic for this year’s poetry was “Embracing our Veterans.” Winners in the poetry category were: Class II- 1 Alayah Krutsinger, 2 Axel Styers, 3 Lenyx Jones; Class III- 1 Olivia Effling; 2 Cullen Peters; 3 Grace Folkman; Class IV- 1 Lily Mundt; 2 Kloe Mclaen; 3 Avery Leonard. 
    The topic for the essays was “What does Freedom mean to me.” Winners in the essay category are: Class I- 1 Kaylee Nickeson, 2. Alayah Krutsinger, 3 Charlotte Tobin; Class II- 1 Kloe Mclaen, 2 Avery Leonard, 3 Zet Moeckly; Class III 1 Amelia Ingvalson; 2 Ruthie Moeckly,  3 Chaz Vietor; Class IV 1 Ava Teveldal, 2 Corrine Bosse, 3 Emily Effling. Class V- 1 Dashel Davidson; 2 Sterling Brassfield; 3 Annika Tank; Class VI- 1 Lillian Kay Good-Morrell, 2 Monty Angstman, 3 Ty Fagerland.
