LA Hosts First Time Career Fair

LA Hosts First Time Career Fair

Langford Area School Counselor Megan Lynde said she had been wanting to put on a career fair at the school for some time. Last week, she finally made it happen when representatives of several businesses, careers, groups and organizations visited the school for an informative and fun event.
The school’s auxiliary gym was filled with many booths that explained, demonstrated, and offered interactive activities for students. There were booths that represented healthcare careers, ag-related careers, public safety jobs, manufacturing and more. Participants came from around Langford and Britton but also Aberdeen, Watertown and beyond.
“I wanted to get as many different career paths at the event as possible,” said Lynde “I think there are careers out there that students don’t even think about. This is a great opportunity to expose them to new job possibilities.”
Attending the career fair were a wide variety of age groups. The kindergarteners through twelfth graders from Langford Area attended. Britton-Hecla brought over their eighth through tenth grade students.
“Our older students get to go to Northern for a career fair there,” said B-H Counselor Sheila Anderson. “But I wanted to get our younger students exposed to something like this as well.”
Lynde found the event to be a big success and hopes to put the career fair on again in the future. “I think it’s beneficial for students,” she emphasized. “Sometimes we think one thing and don’t know there are other options until we see them.”

Poll: TRUMP FIGHTS FOR HIS BIRTHDAY President Donald Trump recently hosted a UFC mixed martial arts event on the White House South Lawn as part of a celebration tied to his 80th birthday and the nation's upcoming 250th anniversary. Some people view it as no different than other entertainers and performers who have appeared at White House events under various presidents. Others believe a professional fighting event was not an appropriate use of the White House grounds. What do you think?
