Bender Wins Second Runner-Up

Bender Wins Second Runner-Up

The Marshall County snow queens continued to see success at this past weekend’s state festival in Aberdeen. This time, the senior candidates got their chance to shine, and one local queen was chosen for the queen’s court.
Britton Area Snow Queen Jayden Bender was chosen as the second runner-up on Saturday. Jayden is a senior at Britton-Hecla High School and is the daughter of Tammy and Jason Bender of Britton.
Olivia Hadrick of Faulkton was crowned as the 2024 South Dakota Snow Queen. Other members of the queen’s court included first runner-up Morgan Sumption of Frederick Area. Miss Congeniality was awarded to Faith Fliehs of Groton Area.
Langford Area was well-represented by Megan Gustafson, the daughter of Jennifer and Joe Gustafson of Claremont. Megan had initially tied for Miss Congeniality though the award was given to Miss Groton after a run-off.
Last week, Britton Area Junior Snow Queen Mataya Knecht earned first runner up in the junior state festival.

Poll: END OR RETAIN EXPANDED MEDICAID COVERAGE? South Dakota voters will decide in November on a proposed constitutional amendment that would end the state’s expanded Medicaid coverage if the federal government’s share of funding for the expansion falls below 90%. The expansion, approved by voters in 2022, provides Medicaid eligibility to certain adults ages 19 to 64 with incomes up to the federal limit established by the constitutional amendment. The proposed amendment would remove that expanded coverage if the federal funding level drops below 90%. If the election were held today, how would you vote?
